I've been having some fun tangling, especially with the Diva's Weekly Challenge and just playing around!

 

 

 

It's a Quandary!!

This week's Diva Challenge was to use the tangle pattern, Quandary. You can see details about the challenge at I am the Diva.

When the Diva posted her challenge I immediately responded on FaceBook... a bit whiney, for sure...

You're killing me! One of those patterns I can't seem to master.....guess I've got my work cut out for me!

To which she responded....kind of unsympathetically, I think :)

time to master it. :D

Let's just say that her smiley face wasn't enough to make me feel better... :)

But seriously, why not master it, that's what the Diva's Challenges are all about getting out of your comfort zone and exploring a tangle pattern... or more.

So, I took her up on her challenge. And in the famous words of some... I told myself to "Suck it up, buttercup."

It was tough and I had to keep reminding myself that my Zentangle practice is about the process...not so much the product.

Thank goodness for Rick and Maria's great step out for the pattern: Quandary


Here's what I came up with:

This is my first tile. I avoided a string and just let it go where
it wanted. I started to feel a bit more comfortable with it in the process.

For this tile, I tried two different variations. I also worked bigger.
I was more pleased with this tile. Quandary started to look flowery, too

Another variation of Quandary. This time I used the new Renaissance
tiles and a brown pen. I used a copper pencil crayon to add a bit of
shadow and I used a gold graphite pencil to shade as well. It was a fun
experiment with the Renaissance tiles, too.

All in all, I am happy with the results. That darn Diva, she sure knows how to make us stretch to find the possibilities! :)

  

Spiralling, spiralling, spiralling

This week, the Diva's Weekly Challenge is #160: "String Theory: Spiral out, Keep Going! (v.2)"
Spirals have been on my mind a lot these last few months. First they showed up in the new book I was making, and then they started showing up everywhere.


Life is way too busy, these days, but I took the Diva's Challenge and had some fun!

Pointillism... This week's Diva's Challenge!

This week's Diva's Challenge was to use pointillism. It was a fun challenge, playing with the density of the dots to create the patterns and the darkness of those patterns

My tile has Printemps, Florz and Cubine. I left the fourth space blank. I also played with dots to create my string. ...just for fun!

A great challenge for the week! I may have to try another one!

Beamz and Well

This week, the Diva's challenge was to use Traci Frogley's tangle Beamz. AND Rick and Maria released a new tangle pattern, Well
What was I to do? I wanted to get trying both of the tangles.
So, I played with Wells, inside of the Beamz tangle. It was fun!
I also created a tile of Wells, just because!

A Tipple Play!

This week the Diva posted a Tipple challenge. No typo here, it's not triple, it's tipple. As the Diva says, the tipple is a pattern that most seem to love or hate.

I remember it being one of the first patterns I used, when trying to teach myself Zentangle. Learning from a teacher was much better! But I'll save that for another post.
I'm the meantime, here is my tipple entry. The string was just a scribble, I had lots of fun.....more fun that the left hand challenge! :)

Diva's Challenge, part 2

So, I was very disappointed with myself for misreading the challenge and doing a monotangle of striping instead of bales. No big deal, obviously, but if I'm going to finally take the challenge it would be nice to actually do the right one!! :)

So, here is the BALES non-dominant hand monotangle. Whatever the tangle, what a challenge!!!

DONE.

Diva's Challenge left handed monotangle = HARD!

I've never entered the I Am the Diva's Weekly Challenge...too nervous.
So, what do I do? Enter the week the challenge is draw with your non dominant hand....using only one tangle pattern, a monotangle. I didn't vary it at all, just drawing one pattern on my little tile was CRAZY.
I don't know if I can honestly say that I found my zen with this one. My mom watched and she kept giggling at how my tongue was stuck out. Then there was the fact that my hand not being used was clenched in stress to keep it from joining in!

Guess what....I just realized that I was supposed to do BALES! Oh brother!

Oh well, here it is! Striping at its left handed finest!

The Diva's Weekly Challenge

Fellow Certified Zentangle Teacher (CZT) Laura H, has a great blog I Am the Diva on which she posts weekly Zentangle challenges.

Each week the Diva posts a new challenge for Zentangle enthusiasts.

 I'll be honest, I've never ever attempted the challenges....I guess I'm a bit of a chicken!

All sorts of people post their work, and this challenge is week 132! Her wonderful work is to be applauded and I'm not sure why I've never had the guts to post, beginners to veterans participate, I shouldn't be intimidated. 

This week's challenge has some fun in it, by asking you to use your non dominant hand.
If I try it, will you?
